About our redesign:
Celebrated Canadian fine jewellery designer Anne Sportun and co-owner and daughter Haley Woodbury are excited to announce the official opening of their newly redesigned store on Queen Street West this month. A darling of the Canadian jewellery scene for over 35 years, Anne Sportun’s eponymous boutique has been a destination for unique and timeless pieces for bridal, everyday and special occasions for generations.
Inspired by the renowned organic shapes and timeless custom pieces for which Anne Sportun’s fine jewellery is known, Toronto-based architecture and design practice Superkül used natural materials and signature details to create a space that exudes serenity and sophistication. The new design celebrates and reflects the brand’s artistry and ethos.
“I’m excited to welcome our customers into this beautiful new experiential environment,” says Anne Sportun. “The redesign provides the perfect backdrop to showcase my collections and for our customers to experience the pieces in an interactive, approachable and personal way.”
Superkül’s redesign elegantly combines a natural material palette with a multifaceted lighting approach to refresh the brand identity and revitalize both the shop’s exterior and interiors. The exterior features a revamped typeface and new signage as well as soft-white porcelain tiles, bronze metal accents and bronze-anodized aluminum on the door and window. This refined façade exudes distinction and warmth, enhancing the store’s presence on Queen West.
Inside, the space extends this aesthetic with custom-cut porcelain tiles, bronze accents and white-oak display cases showcasing Anne's curated collections. Sculpted ceilings with cove lighting highlight the organic shapes of the jewellery. The space is punctuated with Canadian design elements, including pendant lights by Luminaire Authentik and furniture by Vancouver-based Bensen.
The transition to the Anne Sportun-designed collections and consultation space, marked by a subtle step-up, features refinished wood floors, Calacatta Super White marble displays and elements such as bronze-trimmed mirrors and cluster pendants. Pleated felt walls add texture and acoustic dampening for client conversations.
“The first grown-up piece of jewellery I ever bought when I was 18 years old was from Anne Sportun,” says Superkül partner Meg Graham. “I’ve long admired Anne’s distinct design sensibility and, to honour it, we prioritized lighting, natural materials, neutral tones and organic forms and textures to create a tranquil and graceful retail experience. It’s been a privilege to work with her and Haley to bring the next iteration of their studio and shop to life.”
Anne takes great pride in crafting exquisite pieces using only the most exceptional materials and time-honoured techniques. With bridal season officially here, Anne Sportun is excited to announce her new Spring/Summer 2024 bridal line featuring one-of-a-kind antique diamonds. Bespoke services catering to a wide range of clients’ needs spanning from custom gemstone jewellery, engagement and wedding rings and the remounting and reimagining of heirloom pieces further enhance the instore experience.
